How To Pick a Tractor For Landscaping And Farming Work

March 24, 2015

Since the old days, a lot of people consider the tractor as being a farming machine that is only used for ploughing or tilling, but the fact is that today’s technology is so advanced that allowed the production of so many tractor types and models which address a wide variety of tasks, from the simplest ones such as gardening or landscaping to the most complex ones. Although it’s very good to have so many options on the market, it can be also very confusing for someone, not knowing exactly what to buy.

Before targeting a particular tractor model, one should first establish the requirements. If the needs are mostly at garden level and some landscaping, then a compact or subcompact machine will do. With the proper implements, these tractors can do lawn mowing, digging, landscaping, ploughing, hauling, etc.

A tractor will always require a serious investment, so it is recommended to analyze as many aspects as possible in advance of buying one. The price range will vary a lot, depending on the features the tractor has, the level of comfort, power and maneuverability that it provides to the operator. Also, the life span of a tractor is something to be considered. If it won’t be exposed to intense, frequent activities, one may look for a cheaper tractor, but having the wanted features.

The power which a tractor’s engine exerts in order to move forward is called horsepower. Depending on the activities one wants to carry out with the tractor, it may be enough to have a tractor with ten to thirty horsepower if it’s meant for gardening for example, or should have up to one hundred horsepower if the tractor is larger and designed for heavy duty jobs like excavations and pulling.

Lastly, but not least, as any other machine, the safety aspect should be considered for tractors, as well, since they are large, powerful machines operated by people. Before purchasing a tractor, it’s best to ask about what safety mechanisms does a tractor have and if it complies with safety regulations. Having a good visibility angle allows the operator to drive the tractor safely by avoiding obstacles.
