One type of tractors that are smaller than others, more lightweight, but sturdily built are the garden tractors. Special features of these are the high maneuverability, especially in smaller areas and the number of attachments and tools that provide assistance in any of the garden specific activities. Therefore, a gardener may find good use for tools such as disk harrows, cultivators, snow blower, rollers, rotators, tillers, dozer-blades and others. Also, they have either vertically or horizontally mounted engines and may be both gas powered or electrical, also depending on the areas one wants to cover.
Below there are listed some characteristics of some garden tractor parts and attachments.
A disk harrow’s main goal is to prepare the soil at the surface level. Unlike the cultivator, it doesn’t go in too much depth, but only provides a finer finish for the upper soil levels by breaking the soil lumps and much better tillage for further planting operations.
The sickle bar mowers come into actions in areas in which grass cutting becomes more difficult, such as around big trees or under the fences, on road sides or around lakes or ponds. The mechanism of such a tool is based on multiple blades that, going back and forth, can cut through rough grass.
The cultivator or the plow, how it is also known, is meant to get to the deeper levels of the soil and cultivate them. The depth and the width of the furrows are adjustable due to the way this tool is linked to the tractor, using a three point linkage.
Dozer blades are an attachment used for moving heavy objects, sand and debris. These are installed in the front part of the tractor.
A tiller the tool used in both narrow and open spaces and has multiple uses. Depending on the requirement of depth for various seedlings and seeds, a tiller can till the soil as necessary. Moreover, it doesn’t only control the weeds by chopping and burying them, but also loosens the soil between plant rows.
The front blades are used for both mowing and leveling the grass and giving a pleasant, professional aspect to the lawn. These are mounted in the front of the tractor and are able to get to tougher areas thanks to the hydraulic control system.
One other tool is used for maintenance and cleanliness of the ground and it’s called a sweeper. Basically consisted of a brush, the sweeper can remove debris, leaves, sticks and other things from the lawn using adjustable bristle sections on three positions like straight, left and right.
The snow blowers are tools easy to operate and able to deal with big amounts of snow, blowing it off from sidewalks, garden pathways and driveways.
The chipper and shredder attachment is a tool for getting tree limbs chipped at first, for ground clearing, than shredded and deposited in a special chamber. The shredder is located on the top of the attachment, which is made of heavy gauge steel.
The garden tractor is a very useful tool, but people should really pay attention to the instruction and safety manuals in order to avoid accidents.
